Hi, I’m Shireen. I’m a playwright, theatre-maker and dramaturg. Sometimes I write plays solo and sometimes I work in collaborative devising environments as a theatre-maker/dramaturg.

I’ve worked in London, regionally and internationally, creating work for audiences of all ages. My plays include: Belongings (dramaturg & writer in the room, Tangled Feet, UK Tour 2023 & 2024), Repeat After Me (writer, Epic Stages, National Youth Theatre, 2022), You don’t need to make a Big Song and Dance out of it (co-writer, NT Connections, 2022), 39 and Counting (writer, Park Theatre & Oxford School of Drama, 2021), Why Is The Sky Blue? (co-writer, Southwark Playhouse, 2018), The Rise & Fall (writer, Somerset House, 2017), Last Words You’ll Hear (dramaturg, Almeida Young Company, 2014) Soon Until Forever (writer, Theatre503, 2013), Same Same (writer, Ovalhouse & fanSHEN 2011), Nameless (writer, Arnolfini Theatre, 2010). Same Same was translated into Italian by the British Council and presented in Puglia, Italy (2012), it was also shortlisted for the Royal National Theatre Foundation Playwriting Award, formerly the Meyer Whitworth Award (2013). Why Is The Sky Blue? was nominated for two Off West End Awards. In 2022 I worked with Secret Cinema as a writer on their Bridgerton and Dirty Dancing shows.

I was an Associate Artist at both Ovalhouse (2013) and Nottle Theatre, South Korea (2011). I was playwright-on-attachment at the Royal Court (2010). I am an Associate Artist with Fast Familiar Theatre Company (formerly fanSHEN) with whom I’ve co-created numerous works (most notably The Justice Syndicate (UK and Ireland Tour, 2018), Disaster Party (UK Tour, 2017), Lists for The End of The World (Summerhall, 2017).

I have facilitated playwriting/devising workshops for Soho Theatre, Deafinitely Theatre, Ovalhouse and Fourth Monkey drama school. I lecture at London South Bank University on the Drama and Performance MA and BA on an ongoing basis. I’m currently under commission from An Tobar and Mull Theatre to adapt Sarah Moss’ novel Night Waking for the stage.
